Chiesa del Purgatorio Reviews
La Chiesa del Purgatorio sorge sul sito dive si trovava una torre di avvistamento araba che venne poi inglobata nel campanile della chiesa trecentesca dedicata a San Vito. La facciata ha forma di tor... more »Purgatorio church stands on site dive was an Arab watchtower which was later incorporated into the Bell Tower of the 14th century church dedicated to Saint Vitus. The façade has the shape of a tower with decorations and statues. The Interior has a Latin cross with three naves, divided by columns and arches, twenty groups of mysteries and preserves the precious that evoke the passion of Christ. These works, made of wood and canvas panels, are carried in procession on good Friday.

The Church is poor condition inside and out, overall a little charming, but is still worth a visit because for centuries kicks off from there the mystery of the cross.
Usciti dalla via Vittorio Emanuele con l'imponente Cattedrale e la torre astronomica, abbiamo visitato questa bellissima Chiesa barocca la cui facciata è stata realizzata dall' architetto trapanese Bi... more »Leaving the via Vittorio Emanuele with the impressive cathedral and the astronomical Tower, we visited this beautiful baroque church whose façade was designed by the architect Tan Biagio Amico, who also designed the façade of San Lorenzo. Blaise, born just a few meters of this church wanted to be buried here and not in the Cathedral as he wished the Bishop at the time. The façade is adorned by statues of the twelve apostles and top center, Jesus, was terribly damaged during the second world war. Reconstruction and the subsequent restoration are the result of what we see today and it is notable. The curiosity of this place of worship is that it became "deposit" of twenty groups of polychrome wooden statues representing the "sacred mysteries". The statues whose structure of gopher wood (for nature Woodworm), and the drapery fabric and glue, beautifully painted, are the center of the events of good Friday before Easter. From 600 to date inenterrottamente, the statues come out through the streets of downtown supported by belonging to the "middle classes" (professional associations, pasta makers, massari, stone masons, bakers etc) that protect them and have maintained over time. This procession attracts thousands of people and is particularly striking because of the movement (honed over the years and the jargon is called "annucata") that the carriers can give, it seems that the statues move and come to life! Note that the Church, despite being some sort of deposit, is consecrated and rituals are held regularly. Who attends describes a particular mysticism which is not found in other churches by the inclusion of "Mysteries". The fatezze are so realistic that appears to participate in sacred functions. We say many times "," this time it is certainly. Manuela and Alessandro Gori
This church replaced the concept of fresco with sculptures of scenes from the new testament. It is original and well done. Definetly the worth a visit!
Just a regular small church, but it hosts the 20 group of statues making up the traditional procession of Misteri, hekd in Trapani each year on good Friday
Beautiful! To visit in pre Pasquale and for "the scinnute". You can see the statuary groups vis crucis (mysteries)
If one is in Trapani, the Chiesa delle anime del Purgatorio have visited. Not necessarily because of the actual Church, which is also very nice, but above all because of the groups of figures, which in the processions of the Settimana Santa, which play a large role Holy week.
