  • Beautiful baroque church in the old town, the facade ... maybe unique in the outside I think is nicer than the inside

  • Located in the historical centre of Trapani, on il corso Vittorio Emanuele, the Cathedral has (as all the zone) a varied history of different domains and reconstructions. The place where it is located was part of the Republic Marinara dei Genovesi, who around 1102 created it as "Chapel of St. George", in honor of its patron saint. The Genoese had a strong presence in Trapani, due to its commercial and maritime activities and as a result of alliances formed to oust the Arabs at that time. Conserves its consecration by San Giorgio until the end of 1200, moment in which the subdivision of the territory, one of the Kings of Aragon has called one of the regions of San Francisco and the other San Lorenzo. There's obviously your name. Its facade is Baroque, a darker similar to the Noto, although a little ochre-coloured stone, with curved top. It is decorated with ionic columns and on the right side is the Bell Tower, covered with polychrome majolica. The portico has three sections separated by an arch that opens to the outside. The fence is wrought bronze. The part inside is wide, with shape of cross and three ships. We went in the morning, and we could appreciate the light that enters through windows and the dome. It has also an important marble altar, numerous reproductions of works by famous painters, notably an attributed to Caravaggio. What surprised us, because we had not seen him in other churches of Sicily, was the profusion of plants in various altars and Church ships. A very special touch, that adds an extra special to visit the Cathedral. Without being as spectacular as other Duomos, it is well worth a visit when touring the historic center of Trapani.

  • Although immersed in the heart of Trapani, on the main promenade, fails to convey a sense of grandeur of cathedrals, definitely worth a visit. Hit the clear green well worked and the Baroque style of the façade.
