  • The Pontifical basilica of Santa Croce is the main place of Catholic worship of Torre del Greco was built in the early 16th century, is the religious heart of the city and houses the mortal remains of blessed Vincent Romano, pastor of the Holy Cross from 1795 to 1831, whom we owe the present form of the imposing structure rebuilt, after the total destruction of the city quai as a result of the eruption of Vesuvius in 1794. Around the Church, and the large square in front, develops the historic city centre.

  • Torre del Greco, Holy Cross Church and its bell tower engulfed by lava up to the second floor. The basilica is built on another Church, lavas were numerous, this latest 1794 surrounded the belfry but did not falter, the lava brought the Centre of Torre del Greco to be built upon a plan quite enjoyable, the last Administration has enlivened the city.
