Scavi di Oplontis, Torre Annunziata
(4.7/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Explore a villa frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius when you visit Scavi di Oplontis. See preserved murals and paintings on the walls, as well as intricate tiles and mosaics on the floor. Tour the gardens, see ruins and artifacts, and view the remains of people caught in the eruption and petrified in ash. Though much smaller than Pompeii or Herculaneum, this site will give you a good idea of how the upper class of Roman society lived, as well as a more intimate view of the architecture and style of their homes. Put Scavi di Oplontis and other Torre Annunziata attractions into our Torre Annunziata trip generator, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Outside the routes taken by assault by tourism. We chose to visit the villa Poppaea on a Sunday when museums were free and there we found virtually none. We could admire in peace the beautiful frescoes of this Roman mansion. Recommended!

  • Sometimes it is difficult to get a sense of the depth, Vesuvius once engulfed towns and buildings with its debris. On arriving at Villa Oplontis, it gives a great appreciation of just how deep it was ...  more »
  • Wedged between the huge Pompeii and well preserved Herculaneum, this villa is often not on the route of tourists. However, it is easy to access, is the judgment of the Circumvesuviana (serving Pompei) just before the great city precisely. And in 5 minutes on foot, we're there! And here you can enjoy this place with great peace of mind since there is almost no one! Off, the State of conservation of the mural of this House is remarkable! And the frescoes are especially beautiful that they reflect the wealth of its owner, who was the second wife of the Emperor Nero. Besides, the place was being renovated at the time of the eruption of 79! In short, if you find at least 1 hour in your schedule, you won't probably! And more ticket may be combined with that of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The day of my visit, the ticket office was more paper to print the receipt... that never mind, staff are happy to have visitors in the month of December, I visited the site for free! :)
