Scavi di Oplontis, Torre Annunziata

Explore a villa frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius when you visit Scavi di Oplontis. See preserved murals and paintings on the walls, as well as intricate tiles and mosaics on the floor. Tour the gardens, see ruins and artifacts, and view the remains of people caught in the eruption and petrified in ash. Though much smaller than Pompeii or Herculaneum, this site will give you a good idea of how the upper class of Roman society lived, as well as a more intimate view of the architecture and style of their homes. Put Scavi di Oplontis into our Torre Annunziata trip planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Torre Annunziata.

  • It is quite well preserved and has restored the roof with which you can visit on a rainy day. It is not as crowded as Pompeii by what is best visited, we went on Sunday and the entrance was free.

  • place of rare beauty and fascination that immerses and imagine the life of the past. walking through the rooms and the villa you have the sensation of hearing the shouting of the old inhabitants. The pool! Amazing the construction technique and size. The frescoes, charred pieces of wood doors, kitchens, services. It all combines to give an insight into the ancestral homes of the era. Pity that there is a car park (cars on the sidewalk). Little money invested to maintain a unique place in the world for the invoice and its membership. There are still few years tr?

  • At the Centre of Torre Annunziata, not far from Pompeii and stabiae, you can visit the archaeological site of Oplontis. Since 1964 the excavations have unearthed the Villa Poppaea and, in 1974, the Villa of Lucius Crassius Tertius. Since 1997 the excavations of Oplontis, along with those of Pompeii and Herculaneum were included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
