  • With the Palace and the Garden has entered fully into the Unesco World Heritage list. The Villa is the most authoritative example of refined Renaissance culture. Presents prestigious architectural elements such as fountains and large ponds which make this unique garden. Villa d'Este is the reference model of Italian garden that dominates the whole architecture of the 16th century. Its uniqueness and beauty are serviced by archetype for the construction of gardens throughout Europe during the 16th century. Originally used as a convent, the monumental complex was transformed in the 16th century by p. Lambert, for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, in sumptuous villa. Villa d'Este presents rich apartments with furniture and paintings of Mannerist and Baroque period. The terraces are reminiscent of ideally to the hanging gardens of Babylon, one of the seven wonders. The garden has a really awesome roundup of Mannerist and Baroque taste fountains. Walking through the avenues of the villa remains amazed by the many grottoes, nymphaeums and crannies to which they appear like magic water games and music, made with hydraulic structures innovative for its time. Inside the rooms are all frescoed by Roman school painters such as Zuccari, A.m. et al.

  • If you visit Tivoli on a nice weather day, do not miss this historical attraction. It offers breathtaking views and something interesting for all ages. The gardens have many, many steps and no elevator. For that reason I would not recommend to those who have difficulty walking or climbing stairs.
  • Place has a lot to offer, that is for sure. It is a pleasure walking through the historical rooms, countless fountains, beautiful gardens and nice sights. But I think experience you might have depends on the season. I was there in the end of March, which is kind of off-season. There wasn’t a functional cafeteria and the villa was going through a large scale maintenance. It was disabling for a guest. I also found audio guide/map duo irritating and difficult to use. And the fountain which contains the medieval musical device is not worth a long wait. Just my personal opinion ;) But like I said, it was still a pleasure to visit. I recommend having a Latin translator though. You might have a better time going through the depictions of virtues 😊
  • Visiting Villa d'Este may be worth the trek out of town. It's a fair, steep distance to walk up hill, parking a car is still not as easy as it should be for such a popular tourist spot. The fountains are definitely the most stunning in Italy. Try and go on a sunny day the sculpture and fountains are particularly pretty in early evening light.
  • Wanderful estate with wide garden full of beautiful fountains. In a couple of hours tour you can complete the visit and also appreciate the pretty far view of Rome from the terrace.
  • Such a magical place, best time to visit is at the end of winter or spring. Make sure to bring an umbrella with you and be careful when walking as the stairs can be a bit slippery. The lower sections are the best place to take pictures.
