  • It's Sunday, we plan to take a trip around and arrive in Thiene, small but charming town of Vicenza. The parking lot of villa Fabris in piazza divisione Acqui is free on Sundays is 200meters, 5 minute walk. The ticket Office is just past the Castle gate, tickets cost € 10. The guide is a young sympathetic and prepared shows us the outside and tells the story of why more than a castle (crenellated walls with Venetian chimneys, towers etc) is a villa prepalladiana. we visit the ground floor and first floor: beautiful Murano chandeliers, furniture and paintings in addition to the original terracotta flooring all nicely restored and preserved. The highlight though is the team that looks more like a living room: red marble columns with putti above, nice floor for sure one of the nicest we have seen. The tour lasts about an hour and definitely worth it.

  • The "Castle" is actually a rare example of pre-Palladian Venetian villa of 400, the most important to come down to us, with corner towers, battlements and a beautiful Gothic façade ' pentafora '. Of extraordinary beauty on camerone in ground floor, entirely covered by frescoes of the school of Verona on the theme of loyalty and betrayal, with 4 scenes by Livy. Delightful eighteenth-century stables. Don't expect a Palace, was a country house with farm-house and warehouse functions on the Venetian model. The tours are guided (excellent) in the schedule (see the website).

  • The castle of Thiene is an outstanding example of pre-Palladian villa: the only example of its kind, is considered a milestone in the evolution of the Venetian Villas. Combines the features of the castle to those of Venetian Palace and in particular the "casa-fondaco", at the same time housing, stock and place of business. The castle of Thiene, attributed to the architect Domenico from Venice, was built in the mid-15th century at the behest of the illustrious family vicentina port. The rooms of the Castle retain original furnishings, clothes, accessories and an extensive collection of portraits. Of note is the cycle of frescoes realized by Gian Battista Zelotti and Gian Antonio Fasolo. You can admire the magnificent stables, built between XVII-XVIII centuries by architect Francesco Muttoni, and little monumental complex of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The Castle, symbol of Thiene is located in the historic centre of the village and is surrounded by 12000 square meters of green. In historic gardens you will find: "the Court noble" with Magnolia trees, the park with Renaissance and 16th century Icehouse, cédraie or cave. The castle of Thiene preserves its original character offering visitors the opportunity to experience life in the villa.
