  • The nature reserve offers a nice walk silvestre of more than three hours. We have done it with the guides of Alcedo Environment with a group to which they belonged, even of children. The route started from the Service Center at Monticello, a few meters from the bridge of the ENEL dam near Levane. We saw beautiful farmhouses largely in ruins, called "leopoldine" dotting the Tuscan landscape and popping up in the most unexpected places. Passing through narrow paths, walking in the midst of a wild nature, water, wet grass and dotted with cowslips spiazzi, and through thickets. Then we arrive at the site the main characteristic of the reserve: the vast expanse of water of dam (3.4 million cubic meters). The Arno has eroded to a depth of several tens of meters of the lake sediments from different geological periods from Ponte del Romito to the dam ENEL, and in some places, such as near the Castle, the river flows in a bed built into the rock. The vegetation consists of cerrete upward facing slopes located in invaded and from small areas occupied by shrubs and crops. Along the banks of the reservoir and various streams or "banks" have lots of willows, poplars and robinias. Nell'Ansa of Marsh and interesting formations are Banding with a little luck you can do birdwatching.
