Sanctuary of Giove Anxur, Terracina
(3.9/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
, a Roman temple built on a hill some 227 m (745 ft) tall, offers impressive views of the nearby town and the Mediterranean sea. The substructure dates back to the first century BCE. The ruins themselves include a fortified camp, the temple itself and its terrace, as well as a smaller temple with traces of ninth-century frescoes. Roman cults worshiping the gods Venus and possibly Jupiter celebrated rites here. Bring sturdy footwear and be aware that the inclines are steep. Visit the on-site bar for refreshments before hiking back down. Arrange to visit Sanctuary of Giove Anxur and other attractions in Terracina using our Terracina tourist route planner.

  • Worth seeing is if you love art and architecture and whether they love the landscapes. The view that you get from the promontory will repay you the cost of the ticket. Pros-great example of Roman architecture-breathtaking cons:-anything relevant to report NB: during certain times (like last summer) there are some interesting events. I recommend everyone to ask for the site before you come, so as to check for any current events.

  • Lovers of antiquity and the stunning scenery will be interesting at the top of the Hill the Temple of Jupiter in Terracina. There are traces of the ancient Etruscans (even the name itself "the land of Terracina + dinner"-also Etruscan, that people had been taken to cover "table" on the Earth, obviously in gratitude to her for the fruits that she gives birth). The temple was destroyed a long time ago, but remained strong supposed construction of barracks and warehouses. Anyway the spirit of centuries and millenniums feel here. From the top of the mountain-captivating views of the sea, the mountains and the nearby cities. When we went up to the temple, was the Sun, and then the Princess wanted a huge storm cloud, followed by sea followed the whirlwind-just saw the strength of ancient buildings, and impressions of the architecture and powerful natural phenomena remained the brightest.

  • An interesting Historical site above Terracina, with beautiful views, clean grounds and a good coffee shop to boot!
  • very interesting ancient building. We had the opportunity to see a Video about ancient Temples in Italy. Well researched and presented and worth to see. Although we did not enter the Sanctuary of Giove Anxur, the overview on top of the high coast above of Terraccina, Italy was fascinating! Come and visit this ancient building! Ciao, Wolfgang
  • Incredible site. Breathtaking views from up here.
  • Definitely beautiful and picturesque. Used to go visit every time we were in Terracina until it stopped being free. Really upset they charge so much to get in. Would still go if it wasn't so expensive. That being said, if you are in town only once it is worth it.
  • an archaeological site is well maintained, with adequate explanation signs. the small visitor centre, which welcomes visitors with an introductory video in Italian with English subtitles, has a good variety of publications and a selection of themed gadgets. staff polite and friendly. impressive audiovisual spectacle/evening tour. within the site really nice and relaxing dining with breathtaking views of the sea. an archaeological site in line with the best international experience.
