  • At Taranto, Puglia (XI century) the oldest duomo has been strongly revamped over time. Inside, it has a beautiful baroque chapel dedicated to San Cataldo, decorated with statues. Profusion of multicoloured marble and marquetry, consistency of a set of rich, paintings on the ceiling. The rather austere crypt, dotted with columns, however has some beautiful murals painted between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries.

  • It is the Cathedral of the city of Taranto. The Church, which was initially dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene is the oldest Cathedral pugliese (only later was dedicated to Saint catald). The building dates back to the Byzantine era, and in some parts of the Church (those not restored), you can see the work of the people. In fact, the trailing arm, extended and lowered, incorporated the central nave with marked apse of the Byzantine Church, remained unchanged; the altar is placed under the dome and the old nave became the transept, cut from the aisles, leaving in view of a series of columns that decorated the ancient building. Baroque façade was added in the early 1700 's. It was declared a minor Basilica by Pope Paul VI in 1964. TO VISIT ABSOLUTELY!

  • This Cathedral is found easily. It stands right on the Piazza del Duomo. It really decorates. You can go inside and free. But if there is not going to any event.
