  • The archaeological national Museum of Taranto (Marta), based in the XIX th century is located a few steps from the "castello Aragonese" (free tours every two hours), the other side of the "ponte Girevole" that separates the island of Taranto of the modern city. The building facing Garibaldi Square Garden has 3 floors (the first and 3rd levels are the most interesting, the second level has a room with a few Italian paintings). Collections covering a broad period, from prehistory to the Greco-Roman period. Impressive Greek ceramics (of quality), sculptures, mosaics, jewelry, coins, masks in terracotta, dishes, vases, rhytons, helmets etc etc... Photos permitted (without flash of course). Entrance 5 euros of memory. Sale of souvenirs at the level of the funds.

  • It was a surprise to find a place so rich in history. On our doorstep. Should be visited by all Tarantini.

  • Really good to learn about local history. Well organised and interest. Really liked it and it's free the first Sunday of each month!
  • Stunning history here. We came on a day where two of the floors were closed for some reason not mentioned on their website. Definitely check in advance.
  • 100% worth the visit to Taranto to see this museum, extremely good layout and lots of history on offer.
  • Amazing collection- need more staff!
  • Nice and modern museum. Sadly more than half of exposition was closed. Beautiful collection but quite expensive (€8)
