  • Incorporated in the industrial area of Taranto along the coast jonica 106, the complex covers on the site granted by Constance of Altavilla in 1119 to build a hospice for pilgrims and wounded Crusaders in the Holy land. Initially dedicated to Santa Maria del Mar, the monastery was entrusted to the monks; in the 14th century it was expanded with the construction of the Angevin style church. Entitled so to Santa Maria della Giustizia in 1482 became the seat of the monks of the Congregation of Monte Oliveto. In 1725, to the conditions of degradation of the Abbey, the Olivetani were transferred: the Church was desecrated and the entire structure transformed into a farm. From 1970 is entrusted to the Superintendence for the historical and artistic heritage of Puglia who oversaw the recovery. The Church has a single nave, is divided into two bays with cross vaults. Right after the entrance, there is a beautiful 16th-century frescoed chapel. The second span, into which is placed the stone altar, holds the stairway to the upper floor and the entrance to a large rectangular Hall with a barrel vault (refectory), on whose wall is painted a fresco depicting the crucifixion with our Lady of sorrows and Saints John and blessed. On the whole, unfortunately, can be visited only in days (days of the FAI and Archeoclub Taranto).

  • A monastic complex surprising. The Church is rich in frescoes and is very interesting as it may have retained in the middle of the refinery.
