  • A paradise on Earth! Visited several times at different times of the year and both dorsanti. Scala Cruci: the path from South of the quarry is the best known. Easily accessible from Avola, has ample parking and a restaurant serving refreshments upon return. The path is quite simple, however, is long and quite tiring. Mastra Ronna: is my favorite! You come from the provincial road Canicattini-Stallaini-Cassibile. Little parking, everything under the Sun. No structure. It crosses a farm (if you are afraid of dogs beware) but the path is a bit sweeter and a bit shorter. You're from the north side so where the sun shines. Often you happen to stumble upon a large group of goats grazing. The lakes are a paradise. You will find figs, wild Myrtle, flowers sprout from rocks, butterflies of all kinds, freshwater crabs, rocks of chalky white stone made with steps and a waterfall. A true spectacle of nature. The water is a little chilly but the Sun at 40° C is what you need. Always dry yourself well your ears after each dip or dive to avoid ear infections caused by temperature changes. The equipment is very important. Need shoes. Preferably hiking shoes or good sneakers. Don't bother to get down flip-flops, you might hurt and call the search-and-rescue helicopter would cost you a fortune! Bring backpack with towels, water and food and, importantly, a bag to collect your rubbish. It is a paradise and it's fair to leave it as you found it. Mobile phones and mobile phones do not take. You'll have to wait to move up the quarry to share your photos on social networks. In the period between mid-July and mid-August the pools are filled with tourists and what might be less relaxing. My advice is to visit them in June, maybe during the week and not on weekends. Climb the small lakes no later than 17.00 You inside a quarry so the Sun's rays at a certain point you will give up and go up in dim light is not exactly the best. Travel time to the uphill/downhill approx. 45mins.

  • Cavagrande del Cassibile is well known by tourists, who find it described in all their guides. A little less by the Italians and this sorry. You visit places less striking but very famous, in foreign countries. The descent and ascent are a bit tiring, but the landscape which is reached at the bottom of the trail is at the Cassibile is a crystal clear river flowing between white rock and shrubs, form lakes and waterfalls where eating out and small corners to sit in the Sun to dry.

  • As a reward you can swim below - you should allow plenty of time and change something on finding paths - officially you can not go in anyway since the great fire, but that care not what. Be rather early and take the directions of Noto. There are endless switchbacks from the water side from the direction of Avola.

  • The place is stunning but get ready to walk down one hour under tough ground conditions. Flip flops not recommended. Good health conditions required. Best choice sport shoes. Parking lot under payment of 3 EUR.
  • A very long way down and hard way up, specially around noon, but the ponds and water are worth the effort!
  • The Cavagrande is a must-visit for people looking for pure sicilian nature in all of its beauty. We went here March/April and it was great. The landscape is outstandingly beautiful. It is pretty easy to get down to the super beautiful and peaceful natural lakes, though I would recommend fitted shoes instead of flip flops for the standard route. This will not require any climbing, but careful stepping up and down the path. You should avoid going up or down at noon at least in summer, because hiding spots are rare. The way down takes 45 minutes and the way back to the plateau 1 hour - both with multiple pauses to admire the breathtakinh view. The administration guard told us we could not go down, but you can do so at own risk anyway using a small path to the left of the gate. The trip itself is not dangerous, but in summer check for wildfire yourself. I totally recommend this valley to any visitor. Most beautiful place at Sicily I have went to!
  • Absolutely beautiful, but you need to be reasonably fit to enjoy the down and uphill :)
  • Nice nature reserve. Olive trees and lemon trees
