#1 of 424 in Parks in Sicily
Ortigia is the historic city center of Syracuse on the island of Sicily. Connected to the main island by a series of three bridges, this small island features the majority of Syracuse's cultural and artistic heritage, spanning more than 2,500 years of history. Meander through the narrow alleyways admiring the mix of medieval architecture and Roman ruins. You'll see the ancient Temple of Apollo and the city's main cathedral, which was built using remains from the Temple of Athena. Try to stop by island's outdoor market, where you can buy local goods and handmade products. • This island is very beautiful, there are a lot of attractions to visit: the Cathedral, Piazza Duomo, the very picturesque streets, the restaurants. Stroll through the streets to the atmosphere for the discovery of the richly decorated mansions.

  • We had rather bad weather in Syracuse - rainy and windy. Strolling the streets of Ortigia island is a must and actually pleasant. When we walked right next to the sea it was incredibly windy, but the ...  more »
  • The island of Ortigia is magical! Characteristic alleys with all its colors with its Baroque monuments that enrich it make it unique and unforgettable. We must not let slip one of the masterpieces of 17th century art housed in the Church of Santa Lucia alla Badia; from his altar on Caravaggio tells the story of the patron saint of Syracuse, But the particularity that over the centuries has made wonderful Ortigia is the full Baroque that goes adorning the facades, making it unique and romantic. At sunset, the peculiarity of this island is that it seems going pink and orange as the sunset light caressing the white marbles of the streets who flock of visitors and so it's like admiring a painting. Specialties are not only monuments but the island of Ortigia is a veritable urban Theatre, whose soul is the very essence of the city: an essence made of ideas, words, mannerisms, lights and scents. To VISIT ... you'll appreciate!

  • Beautiful buildings well worth visiting. Lovely restaurants. We ate opposite the cathedral. Good food and not too expensive.
  • This summer I've been startled and delighted by the sight of such a transparent sea right near to my bed and breakfast. Esasy stairs have led us to a comfortable wooden tarrace onto the cliff. Once over there I've dived and have gone swimming all afternoon
  • Beautiful place, DO NOT go close at weekends. It is packed! Where do Syracusans go for an ice cream, or if they want to get to Ortigia?
  • Amazing place - beautifil scenary- landscape- bars- restaurants- perfect for a week of total relaxation
  • One of our family favorites. You can just walk around and enjoy architecture and food, take a boat your thru sea caves, swim at the beach or walk in castle so much to see.
