  • Used as cava (lufar where the stones are removed) in Greek period to build the city, then it was prison of the atenience who invaded the city and finally part dle monastery! Today the atmosphere is magical, seems to be in a tropical jungle... often at the entrance, but just in case carry protection against mosquitoes

  • I love to walk and I decided to go to this place that all Syracusans they advised me. After 3 km from Ortigia party find it closed ... The Capuchins have decided to make the place closed to the public except on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays ... Moreover, during certain times of the year, only on Sundays. It doesn't seem at all clever close a place like that.

  • The Latomia was an obligatory stop of the trip in Sicily, the so-called "Grand Tour". Among the latomie of Syracuse that ancient and Capuchin is certainly the most beautiful. The link with the Friars Minor of St. Francis dates back to 1582, when the University of Syracuse gave it to the monks.
