  • It is accessed from the magnificent Piazza Duomo. It is a unique testimony of Syracuse of the past. Used as a cistern of the nearby Archbishop's Palace, was also the air-raid shelter during the attacks of the second world war. Visit is an experience quite impressive. Not to be missed

  • Old stone cellar! you enter by the square of the Duomo and then down stairs uns... is strategic to a wide space with galleries! It was used in the 2nd war as a refuge! When was he had a sample of costumes used in the theatre of Syracuse! Super °!

  • It is not clearly visible entrance located in piazza duomo between the 2 main churches. Worth a visit having half an hour of time. I think you pay € 5 entrance and guide then explains how did this underground tunnel and the many uses over the years to be a bomb shelter during World War 2. Now I keep costumes of theatre performances. Go down 18 meters below ground but lacks the air and even space. Exit at Foro Italico directly facing the sea. Next to the exit you can admire the fountain of slaves and a lovely garden with big trees, meet then the tanks where the papyri spontaneously.
