  • Situated right at the end of the Duomo Piazza, slightly recessed is the church of Santa Lucia alla badia. It is an impressive work.
  • It's a church and an art gallery, too. I enjoyed the beautiful frescoes inside it. Very unique space at the end of a lovely square.
  • The Church was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693 by Benedictine nuns whose convent was part. The façade is a typical example of Sicilian baroque: two twisted columns are manning the entrance; the Summit is dominated by a small Bell, cherubs and coats of arms adorn the eaves. U metal balcony surrounds the face and allowed the nuns to attend the demonstrations that took place in piazza duomo not seen. The special feature of the Church is, however, on the inside. The Church contains, in fact, one of the last works by Caravaggio, 1608, the BURIAL of SAINT LUCY of Syracuse made for the Church of Saint Lucia to the Tomb, which is located in the district. You can see at a safe distance and you can't take any pictures. The picture is simply magnificent. The action focuses on short dead by Saint Lucia, manned by two gravediggers intent on digging your own grave where to bury her. The background is occupied by a mass of faithful who pregono and weep for the Holy. The action takes place in a catacomb, which gives the scene a twilight appearance, enhancing the sense of great sorrow that endures the scene. Not to be missed.
