  • Although it is a little away from the main attractions of the city, it is worth approaching this place for visiting both the basilica of Santa Lucia as the Temple in which, according to tradition, the mortal remains of the Saint, patron saint of Syracuse are preserved. The basilica stands on the place where there were other, Byzantine, which was destroyed by the Arab invaders. The current Temple is of the 17TH century, although it retains some elements above, especially Norman. The Church of the sepulchre, separated from the basilica, is notable for its octagonal shape. It was built in 1629, although the works probably it could not complete, since the Spanish authorities who ruled Sicily at that time feared that their appearance it confused with a small military Citadel. Unfortunately I could not visit the interiors of both temples, and stayed with the external appearance of the set, to the South of which stretches wide rectangular plaza. A penalty not seeing, among other interesting things, the Caravaggio painting representing the Holy burial. In any case I emphasize the artistic value of these constructions.

  • Nice front porch and nice but nothing more in this church dedicated to Saint Lucia. Or at least failed to it in us any particular emotion. You can not do.

  • Warning beware! Visit this place on a Sunday morning. A super weekly market takes place directly in front of the Church. I've seen almost everything except fish and cars. At 10:30 then to mass in the Basilica. Quite popular, but expensive + ritually clean. Then, 30m, in the 8-square Chapel in a "hole" below the street level. Here, at the catacombs level (practically in the catacombs in gebuddelt), the original Tomb of St. Lucia v. Syracuse (283-304). Unfortunately empty. Nice, clean, and cheap Cafés around the place.

  • Very nice the catacombs, too bad not having been able to see in their entirety.

  • The ticket price of €8 per head is outrageous especially X family. You cannot pay this amount when you consider then the devotion to a Saint.
