But once at the top what a show! We had lots of luck with the weather and the wind but pay attention to the direction of the wind which can fold fumaroles on you and you stop to admire the show of mister Stromboli. Don't forget a warm jacket.show original

Unfortunately, our group was very large with over 40 people, what I felt was too much. The guides were circumspect, back the other one ran forward. The physically weaker ran with directly ahead at the mountain guides at slow speeds. So it did everyone in our group. At the Summit we had stay on the side of CA 40 min (4-5 eruptions), top with direct views of the crater only 20 minutes (1-2 eruptions). This makes then apparently the 1 hour on the Summit, which we were told before the tour. The eruptions are more, sometimes less. The Stromboli spits lava at intervals of about 15 minutes. Some of the Group were disappointed, they would expect more and larger eruptions. I thought it was terrific. Where can you see in an active volcanic crater with lava? The climb (CA 900hm) is well feasible for people with good condition. The descent is somewhat difficult, as it was very quickly more or less directly down. Usually, it goes through sand that cushions the knees too. Walking down in the dark with headlamp. Own lamp is recommended. You can rent one, but you were probably not so good. Sticks and good hiking boots are also helpful. You can borrow this. Not ideal, I felt that we were each only a break (CA. 10 minutes). Even though the crowd was very high (350 people were above!), should be placed on pause value (for drinking and other needs)! Even if it is said that one should be physically fit, there was fairly strong fluctuations in the condition of the participants. And for Konditionsschwache, a break is all the more important. We booked by the way of a drive from Salina. GGF is an accommodation on Stromboli somewhat stressful. It saves each 2h drive and can stay longer at the Summit in doubt. Conclusion: unique. Bring: water, wind jacket, warm jacket, T-Shirt to the switch, headlamp, walking sticks, hiking boots, fitness, anticipation!show original
Nino got us up there in good time, but at a pace that was manageable, and then got us the best spot for some fantastic photos while other groups clearly missed out. My one comment, echoing a previous ... read more »
