  • It's quite a drive to this remote hilltop village but it's well worth the effort. The village itself is a poignant reminder of a particularly barbaric WW2 mass execution and now constitutes a national...  more »

  • In Sainte-Anne during the war life flowed as usual. A country slightly less than 400 people. The children wore a sheep pasture, men to work in the Woods and the women to spin ... young girls were going to the source to get water and bloomed the first amori...si sentivono the birds sing from poggio a Knoll. To arrive there was only one astrada dirt road and you arrive just walk. For this in the ' 44 when the victuals they were finishing in the big cities began to get away and go into safe places like this are considered "white areas". From Florence from Lucca mass, they felt safe up there. The inhabitants of Sant'Anna welcomed all became more than 1200 people ... and then on 12 August, came the Nazis and fascists walk up there with death in the eye. The St Anna's troops fled into the mountains to avoid being caught and passed to arms, women and children thought nothing was going to happen ... at 7 in the morning the village was surrounded then there was a massacre of civilians rounded up civilians found, li closed in stables or in the kitchens of the houses, killed them with machine guns, grenades, revolver shots. The youngest victim, Anna Pardini, had 2 months. 560 people women, children and the elderly.

  • Small town in Versilia known for an ugly incident during World War II, there are a church and a museum where are narrated the events which killed children, women and men at the hands of German soldiers who kill them in retaliation and cowardice. There is a small bar where you can eat. This can be seen as well as a starting point for walks along the trails and Woods around.

  • This place of Google Maps is directly managed by the historical Museum of Sant'Anna di Stazzema. It is the only one with schedules, contacts, official designations and trusted. We cannot guarantee on other sites in Google Maps about St Anne, more faces that have been reported to Google praying to remove them because they can create uneasiness and confusion (wrong phone numbers, addresses, inaccurate, incorrect times).

  • Head over to visit only if properly informed. The eccedio that took place here in August 1944 requires respect, reflection and silence, to hear the cries of those who, in this place, he lost his life. More than 500 people, mostly women and children, many of whom are under 16 years old. No to festive picnics, no malvacarpet, no to vandalism. Enjoy the wonderful panorama of the coast Versigliese and reflect.
