  • Thanks to the efforts of FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) this jewel of an abbey is well maintained and worth a visit. The central portal contains scenes from the Nativity of Christ, the capitals of the ...  more »

  • It is a millenary monument that for decades has been abandoned. Ancient building built near a farm. Church with arcade where every capital is finely patterned with different figures. Beyond the murals of the church you can visit the farm with the oil mills and oil collection tanks. Today with the intervention of the FAI will return to its former glory the structure and we hope as soon as possible.

  • Very interesting Abbey. Now they're renovating and it is very interesting to be able to climb on scaffolding and having a point of view up close and personal with the murals! Outside Romanesque and Byzantine and pseudo-kufic paintings inside. I chose it as the theme for my thesis in medieval art history, because it offers so many beautiful impressions under many different facets. Then lies amidst olive groves but on the way, so very easy to drive. Pity that there is no public transport from Lecce to arrive because the shuttles up costing way too much!

  • Interesting Abbey, now being recovered thanks to loving care in the round of the FAI, after years of decay, looting and neglect. In fact it reads "open for restoration work". Beautiful mosaic remains of ancient frescoes. Capitals "speakers" on the outside porch. Well, the oil mill and Museum worth mentioning. Citrus garden, Herbarium and arnie. A must see at the end of restoration.

  • In the middle of this beautiful Abbey with interesting Byzantine style frescoes that give tatdogotico. On the left side portico with columns by typical Romanesque capitals with imaginary animals.
