  • Spello was a real find. City of ancient origins, today is a medieval beautifully maintained. It is worth leaving your car in the free car park at the foot of the city and getting lost in the alleys and streets. Colorful balconies, panoramic views, history, making Spello a must see place

more »
  • Spello has repeatedly been recognized as one of the most beautiful villages of Italy TCI, and the beauty of its historical centre-albeit in the absence of monuments of the first order, with the exception of the Baglioni Chapel in Santa Maria Maggiore-justifies this recognition. The village is of great interest for its built environment, with a large main artery that runs from North (Belvedere in Posterula) South (Porta Consolare), steadily climb if you walk from the Porta Consolare, but with a slope not overwhelming if you compare to other towns of Umbria. Deserves attention the striking tangle of Backstreets, lanes (sometimes in stairs) and squares that open at the sides of the main road. Spello is also known as the "city of flowers" because of the abundance of flower pots placed artistically everywhere: it goes without saying that this characteristic makes it particularly attractive in spring and summer, but can be noticed and appreciated even in full August. What's also unusual for an "Orange flag", Spello lends itself very well to be finally visited with public transport: has its own railway station, as opposed to Montefalco, Bevagna and Norcia, and the station itself is in a limited distance and walking distance to the old town (Porta Consolare). Nor is it impossible to reach Spello in a hike from Assisi and Foligno.
