  • In Valtellina, land of great red wines and wineries to visit, there is no better cellar of heroic Maddison. In addition to availability, authenticity and professionalism of those who work there, the winery itself is charming, small and family run hotel in the historic centre of Sondrio. Visiting it means seize the very spirit of the valtellinese viticulture, and then tasting the wines we realize how stress and passion behind every label are well rewarded with a remarkable quality. Sfursat, Grumello and Prudence are 3 wines masterpiece and even the simplest Rosso di Valtellina is really excellent. I recommend everyone to visit the cellar and of course their wines!

  • In a weekend in Valtellina decided to visit a winery and finding ourselves in Sondrio, through the site Valtellina.it (very well done, offering many ideas for different activities) we chose the farm Alberto Maddison. It was a wonderful experience that has enriched our knowledge on the world of wine and discover this delightful family farm linked to the territory and tradition, but also looking to the future and expanding. A friend and collaborator of Alberto Maddison he first accompanied through the streets of Scarpatetti, picturesque neighborhood of Sondrio to be discovered, where is located the cellar, giving us some information about the neighbourhood. We then arrived in one of the vineyards that are part of the 10 hectares of a possession of the company located in the immediate vicinity of Scarpatetti. In the vineyard, plus notions of viticulture and wine from Valtellina, rich territory information there was explained the history of the company, founded in 1986 by Alberto, who since childhood has nurtured a passion for this activity passed down from his grandfather, who was responsible for years of family vineyards Maddison. With the commitment of the whole family and a team of collaborators, the company has grown to be a producer's average Valtellina with today's production of 5 labels: Rosso di Valtellina, Grumello, Sforzato and two wines from a vine called prudence, an area of their exclusive property defined cru because it offers particularly good quality grapes. To follow we were taken to the basement where the production and finally to taste wines above with accompanying platter of dried beef and taleggio fruit of local productions, all in Merry company of our personal guide. The collaborator of Alberto Maddison, who accompanied us in the itinerary sent us many of his knowledge, incuriosendoci and explaining many interesting aspects of wine making and oenology in General; but above all, sent us the secret of the company's products. a company that works the grapes produced and harvested from its own vineyards, a winery almost secular, combining traditional techniques and tools (such as barrels of aging trees and the knowledge and experience of wise elderly generations of Maddison) new knowledge about winemaking learned by the younger generation and modern techniques to adapt to new production requirements. All for obtaining products with a unique flavor, which remain faithfully related to Valtellina and family history, always different every year. and surely be discovered!
