Framed by colorful flower beds and manicured, in an oasis of peace and beauty, not far from the Centre of Sirmione, stands the Church of s. Pietro in Mavino.La simplicity and harmony of the place invite you to enter the Church, where a slight sacred music greets visitors, making the visit a memory full of emotions and meanings. To see!

This is stunning. It's badly signposted. Walk up via Vitoria emmanuele and then past the little electric trains and keep going till you see the sign to branch off to the left. It is a fifteen minute w...  more »

It only takes a small hill to put the crowds off meaning that this small church is very quiet. It is small and has faded frescos on some of the walls and exposed foundations at the rear from several c...  more »

  • Located 300 metres from the fantastic Grotto of Catullus, this small church has its origin in a chapel built in the middle of the 8th century. Several centuries later, between the 11th and the 12th, in the Romanesque style Bell Tower was built and apse is decorated with frescoes by a Pantokrator, enthroned Virgin and Crucifixion. Later, in 1320, the building was the subject of a major reform, and its side walls were also decorated with frescoes. It was used as a hospital by military, and on the adjoining grounds are buried many of the victims who perished during various pests. In the gardens that are together the Church are monuments dedicated to the Italian soldiers fallen in the second world war and those who died in the Nazi concentration camps. Today only, we can see from the outside three of its sides, since the northern side belongs to a private property. It has been closed a season due to restoration work; in March 2017 already had been concluded, but their opening hours is not included in any site. We were around five in the afternoon and it was open. The entrance is free.
