Castello scaligero, Sirmione
(4.4/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
Bordered on three sides by Lake Garda, Castello scaligero originally served as a port defense for Verona's medieval lords. Visit the 13th-century castle that stands guard over the town of Sirmione and its peninsula to see rooms filled with artifacts. Admire the crenellated walls and impressive stone towers, as well as the moat and a drawbridge. You can climb to the top for views of the town, lake, and countryside. For a different perspective, take a boat tour on the lake; many include the castle on their itineraries. • Visit very enjoyable. For the price of the ticket, it pays to turn around the walls and climb to the top, at the highest point of the tower. The view is 360° and is it really worth to be seen, especially if you are fond of photography. Clearly you should take advantage of good weather. Interesting to see the drawbridge and inner courtyards. On one side of the walls you can see the whole dockyard that instead we see little understood outside the Castle. Unfortunately there are no elevators to climb over walls and Tower, but only metal ladders. If there are several people is easy that we need to go up the ramps in turn. Seen these barriers, it is difficult to climb. However one can enter the inner courtyard which is level if a bit stony (medium-large incementati stones, no gravel end ...). The visit does not include indoors: I would ask for confirmation before you buy your ticket. There are no guides, you can rotate freely after buying tickets. The Monte Baldo is placed immediately at the beginning of the historical centre and there are large parking areas, mostly against payment (recommend coin sloppily for parking meter, can't remember if it is given the rest paying with banknotes). If you have a handicapped parking pass on the blue seats without paying anything.

  • Go to Sirmione and not visit the rock doesn't make sense. Internally there is a lot to see, but after doing some tax and arriving on the rock, the view of Sirmione and Lake pays the ticket!

  • You come across an authentic medieval castle super preserved is very good. The visit is something not to be missed, not only by the construction itself, but for the view that provides anyone with the guts to climb a lot of stairs to get to the top. The view is enchanting. Worth the effort of the climb.

  • A very nice looking castle. There's not really anything inside but you get to access the battlements and top of the tower. For the price it's worth it just for the views. For EU citizens under 25 it's just 2.50. Well worth it for the amazing views and neatly designed castle
  • A castle with superb views around Sirmione from the tower, a steep climb as well if you are less mobile. The ramparts give excellent vistas, again quite of steps to clamber up. we arrived just after opening time so it was not that busy, but by the time we left the tour buses had arrived so not only was the castle busy but the resort was too.
  • Free entrance to the castle was a nice surprise. Definitely worth a visit. From the tower you have a fantastic view over Sirmione andere the Garda Lake
  • Loved this place for the history. Dates back to the Romans. Great place to visit and eat. Was just right for the weekend.
  • This was a fun and free (in november) visit to the castle. Nice view on top of the castle.
