Synagogue, Siena
(4.5/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web)
Learn about Siena's Jewish community, past and present, at Synagogue. In contrast to the building's beautiful interiors, its facade is strikingly plain due to strict building restrictions in effect during its 1786 construction, which prohibited Jews from building places of worship identifiable from the street. Simply ring the bell to enter and enjoy a guided tour of the history-rich synagogue, where you'll see prayer shawls, Kiddush cups, and centuries-old Torahs on display. Make sure to look up in the neoclassical sanctuary: the Baroque ceiling features an elaborate tablet presenting the Ten Commandments. • Find the synagogue is not easy as he explained the Guide, like the other synagogues of ghetto, was constructed to go unnoticed. But once you enter will show itself in all its beauty. It's always great--and a little sad-learn the stories of small synagogues across Italy and Siena is no exception. Dear the girl who accompanied us.

  • It s a very fascinating place in Siena. Near Piazza del Campo, in a very small and suggestive street. I cannot enter inside, maybe only jews can. But I was happy to walk around that places
