Church Tourist Spot
Immerse yourself in the city's history and art with a visit to Siena Cathedral, considered one of the country's greatest medieval churches. Built in several stages and combining elements of the Gothic, Romanesque, and Classical architectural styles, the cathedral was consecrated in 1215. The building has the form of a Latin cross, featuring a slightly projecting transept, bell tower, and a dome, parts of which were designed by architect Gianlorenzo Bernini. The cathedral is constructed of white and greenish-black marble in alternating stripes, with red marble added to the facade. Black and white are the symbolic colors of Siena, linked to the black and white horses of the legendary founders of the city, Senius and Aschius. The building also includes a renowned museum of Italian sculpture, displaying works by Donatello, Bernini, and Michelangelo. All-inclusive tickets are available online, providing access to the entire cathedral complex, including the terrace above the museum with its views of the city. Where to stay in Siena

To enjoy panoramic views of Siena's historical old town, check into a luxury hotel in the city center. If you are looking to escape the activity of the main tourist areas, consider staying at a hostel or guesthouse just outside the central areas. Private multi-room villas in the residential neighborhoods offer landscaped outdoor space and secure parking. For something a little different and considerably less expensive, explore one of many B&Bs in the vineyards and olive groves of Siena's countryside.

  • This place is jaw dropping. Even more so than Florence in my opinion. For a very reasonable price (11 Euros) you get entry to the Cathedral, the museum and the view point. Considering it's 20 Euros to...  more »

  • Beautiful gem of a cathedral right here in Siena. Don't miss this sight if you're in town. Be aware that you are required to buy tickets to visit.
  • Incredible cathedral, must see it. It is worth to pay the ticket for visiting all 5 attractions. Allow at least 2h to see everything.
  • I've seen the reviews, and they all forget to mention the magnificent statues in here. They show such a passion and strong emotions in their faces, they are almost like natural humans. Amazing.
  • The most beautiful cathedral of Italy! You can buy a ticket for the cathedral, or different kind of combo tickets. If you're visiting this cathedral, take your time. It's necessary. When you enter you must not forget to look up and to look down, because the ceiling and the floor is amazing. Everything is beautiful here. Don't forget to visit the "libreria piccolini". It's amazing. You're drawn to the ceiling and the books. But, also here, don't forget to look at the floor. It's beautiful. When you're finished visiting the cathedral, at the gift shop are clean bathrooms. It costs 50 cents. My advise, take your time and you will be amazed!
  • It's cool. The only thing worth seeing in Siena, though. I wouldn't make a trip just for that.
