  • The facciatone represents the side façade of the Cathedral of Siena, or rather a hypothetical façade that was planned in 1300 for enlargement of the Cathedral itself, and then the construction of the so-called "new Cathedral". The project involved the widening of aisles, but was stopped a few years later. The facciatone and the South aisle are the only remaining buildings of that project. To get to the facciatone enters the opera Museum, which is right in the "enlargement" of the right aisle, where now are the ticket counters. It can be accessed with a few euros or combined ticket of € 13 including the duomo, the crypt, the baptistery, the Piccolomini library. The problem is the grueling row that you create to access the facciatone: can be expected on average 1-2 hours. But once at the top there is a magnificent spectacle: a beautiful view of the torre del Mangia, the Duomo and the whole city. Really bello...se you have time.
