Categories: Canyons, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
3.4/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web
Alcantara Gorge is a perfect place to swim, wade, and explore nature. You can view the gorge from above, walking among the lemon and orange trees, or you can descend to the bottom. If you plan on swimming, take a suit and sunscreen, as the sunlight gets quite strong in the area. There is also an elevator down to the water, so visitors who are physically challenged can enjoy it as well. • 11.10.2016 - the visit of the Botanical Garden has really nothing exceptional and lack of maintenance. On the other hand, we have very beautiful points of view on the Gorge during the trip. The fragrance of scent of orange flowers are a delight for the nostrils :-) Lovely small beaches and beautiful traces of lava flow on the walls of the Gorge. The clear water at 10 ° is beneficial for feet after a good walk! Very negative: despite the many bins, there is a lot of rubbish such as bottles in glass + pet, butts galore (quid of the box butts who slips into any Pocket?) paper, plastic etc., which is not acceptable in a protected site. They might therefore devote €0.30/0.40 by entry ticket (€13: Garden + lift, free parking) for the cleaning of the Park. I am always shocked to disrespect of the people towards nature which will get rid of their waste anywhere... We don't have a single planet, is so very precious!

  • is a natural wonder that is worth seeing. A Gorge created by a lava flow that formed the walls of prismatic structures with colors ranging from light grey to bluish gray. A timeless landscape. Surreal as a painting of Dalí. No wonder they filmed some scenes of the film "tale of tales". The river water is freezing and crystal clear, and you can swim. The accesses are 2, one private and one municipality, the latter and cheaper and located 100 m after parking. If you want to there are also South of canyoning. In the Park and at the bottom of the Gorge, where there is a small beach, you can bring your dogs.
