Tonnara di Scopello, Scopello

(3.4/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Take a trip back in time to Tonnara di Scopello, the Mediterranean's only surviving traditional tuna fishery and a popular location for moviemakers. A medieval tower rises above the oleander-, olive-, and almond-lined property. The rocky bay is topped with prickly-pear-covered rocks. Stay overnight inside one of the original fishermen's rooms, take a guided tour through the museum, and explore the underwater archaeological museum on a diving tour of the bay. You can also arrange a sailing trip to the Zingaro Natural Reserve. • Even if the facility is now private, it is always worth to a stop. If you want to make a photo however has to in the private system - or just makes a terrible photo of the street. Visit worthwhile.

  • Fantastic place, the only flaws are: parking lots are a bit stark and (not so much the way) but the return do all that ascent is challenging, my wife (who did not know she was pregnant at the time) really struggled to climb! .... the sore point that if you like to swim and stay in the water it is really good, but if you think you have the wrong seat at sunbathing , there is no shadow (only 4 umbrellas, always busy of course) because you are on asphalt and the sun beats down hard. The sea, I tell you to ffare!!! Kids swim with the fishes next! ... the sea is wonderful ... and if you'd like to see a few things with the mask drop by there, too!

  • Between the admission fees and the lack of possibility to park his car, the value of this site is very average. Of course, out of season and only on site, the site is very beautiful. But soon we realize that the steps are numbered... private spaces are immediate. On the other hand, if you love cats, 9 tomcats of the tonnerie come looking for hugs and keep you company!

  • Scopello is beautiful - if you're a strong swimmer head out amongst the limestone pillars and explore.
  • You have to go knowing that's not a beach...then, you'll enjoy this lovely place! One of the best Island places!
  • The location could not be better and the staff is friendly. The rooms however are so old (not maintained), dirty and full of insects. If I could post photos, you would probably not book. It is supposed to be a private beach but they sell tickets to people who want to spend the day on the beach. The result is that it is very crowded. If they would invest a couple of million in the apartments, it could be a true 4star hotel. Now it's just camping with a roof. Very disappointed. For 180 euro per night I would have expected at least some shampoo in the room and clean mattresses
  • Okay for a swim. There's no bar or anything to do here though and I preferred the natural beaches of nearby Zingaro national park.
  • Fantastic and peaceful place...good for those seeking a peaceful vacation and adventure...
