  • Worth a visit if you like the macabre. I found it creepy, not my cup of tea. Short walk from the main square but not suitable for disabled visitors or children 
  • Halfway between Messina and Taormina, perched on the hill overlooking the sea, there is this lovely medieval village. The view on the coast below is great, especially from the terrace of the convent. The village is known for the bar Vitelli where a scene from the film "the godfather." However, the main feature are its churches and the crypt of the convent, and this seems to us a good reason to go there. Admirable project of young locals who are trying to raise money to restore the churches and not lose the historical-artistic heritage. Of strong emotional effect are mummies kept in the crypt, for proper preservation. Interesting are the details on the technique of mummification that ship with great passion by a custody of the site.
