Cascate del Mulino, Saturnia

4.5
#1 of 537 in Parks in Tuscany
Plunge into Cascate del Mulino, a natural thermal bath located in a spa town that has been inhabited since ancient times. At this location, 800 l (211 gal) of water gush into a large natural pond every second, flowing over a waterfall and down a series of natural pools carved into the rock. The water is comfortably warm at about 37 C (98.6 F), and is said to possess healing properties exploited since before the Roman era. Though the water is believed to be healthy, it also smells a bit like eggs because of its high sulfur content, so don’t wear your best swimsuit. There are no real tourist facilities here, so bring your own towel, slippers, and bathrobe, as well as some drinking water and a light snack. Cascate del Mulino is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Saturnia Edition.

  • We stayed last Monday with our three children. Arriving from Castiglione della Pescaia, the road is quite winding nothing that a stop has not facilitated and arrived, already the view from the street, you all. We arrived around noon and there was a "spare" of people and then we were fortunate to find a niche in the shade to equip themselves with an umbrella ⛱ would be the maximum, also because there is so much space but in the sun, especially on the pratone above the mill. In the water there is the presence of both round stones that have the purpose of having a massage effect, both of these harmless red cabbage that live in sulphurous waters: We did not have the shoes for water and we had no problem in having fun and with regard to the Inchworms we were basically in the high tubs where the current is stronger and when we played in the creek at the bottom, we had the intelligence not to point out these creatures to the children. The bar is very stocked with everything, there are hot showers and bathrooms. Recommended

  • The waterfalls of the mill are as seen in the photographs: a beautiful spectacle with some hidden gems. In fact not only the low waterfall is wonderful with its pools but the area of the upper stream in the shade of the reeds and with the rapids allows you to relax in the warmer hours. The comfortable bar right next to the waterfall allows you to dine in the shade and with low prices. You just have to accept the presence of the typical red inchworms and left to be rocked by the boiling water and the sound of the waterfall.

  • Too great, which more is free as is rare nowadays. Prefer a arrival in the morning (< 10.30) to have room easily in the parking. Even in bad weather the place is enchanting, the water is about 37 °, it is rather nice, it does not smell the sulfur. Attention plan shoes from the Beach the ground is abrasive and there are pebbles. Also provide sunscreen, because even in the water we take sunburn. Avoid silver jewellery or other alloys, because it may cause strong oxidation. We had a really nice day. Good future ride and baths to you!!!

  • One of my favorite places. A bit "out of the way" but definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. We also got yummy slushies at the bar not too far from the water falls. (I've been here during the day and during the night. I was amazing to sit in the nice warm water and look up at the beautiful starry sky. Totally amazing. Highly recommended!)
  • One of the most beautiful places I've been to. Winters are better if you are a thermas fan and dislike big crowds. It's December and the place had a lot of people but not even close to summer time. Approx. 8°c in the afternoon, the water runs at 38°c.
  • Wonderful! Fantastic! Amazing place, much better than the paid facilities.Just have to bring towels and/or robe.
  • Let me get this straight. These are some of the most beautiful hot springs you will ever have the privilege of seeing throughout your life. They're just beautiful, surrounded by rocks and waterfalls, immersed in the Tuscan hills that harbour the finest wines and nicest views, in a rural Maremma that's so magically preserved in its purest and most untouched manner, regardless of the many tourists that visit it and keep it dear in their hearts as they leave.
  • Such a great experience all year round, although pretty busy either side of summer. Best part is it's free!! There is also free parking there and a bar to get water, coffee, shower and go to the toilet. I wouldn't recommend eating there though. Kods also love it so great fun for all the family! Bring your towel and some flip flops and spend a few hours relaxing.
