Cascate del Mulino, Saturnia

(4.4/5 based on 2,600+ reviews on the web)
Plunge into Cascate del Mulino, a natural thermal bath located in a spa town that has been inhabited since ancient times. At this location, 800 l (211 gal) of water gush into a large natural pond every second, flowing over a waterfall and down a series of natural pools carved into the rock. The water is comfortably warm at about 37 C (98.6 F), and is said to possess healing properties exploited since before the Roman era. Though the water is believed to be healthy, it also smells a bit like eggs because of its high sulfur content, so don’t wear your best swimsuit. There are no real tourist facilities here, so bring your own towel, slippers, and bathrobe, as well as some drinking water and a light snack. Put Cascate del Mulino into our Saturnia vacation generator and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • I traveled there in January, cold and windy day. The only moment of awkwardness is getting undressed in the cold but once you enter no longer feels anything. The pools are shallow covered with white pebbles, no slime or buggers. In a pool water forms a real tub of bubbles and steam with natural cold air does not feel. Exit is easy because for the first 5 min. you don't feel cold ... a unique experience!!

  • Only, you can enjoy a day happy is different from the usual routine. The place does not offer amenities like changing rooms, showers etc but, still worth a visit.

  • We visited this Spa in a chilly wind Sunday, so stay immersed in that hot water was more than pleasant! We were fortunate to find at most 10 people, so no crowd we enjoyed them even more! Only advice: don't go out when the Sun has already gone down.. It's freezing! for the rest it deserves the time of journey to reach it!

  • Great place. It worth a day trip from Rome! Very suggestive water falls and place. Just remember to bring food and beverages from home!
  • This is free hot spring in nature, BUT the temperature is not high as normal HOT SPRING. If you expect warm bath, here is not good place..!! I think the temperature of water is between 23~25°C.
  • A wonder of nature with perfectly tempered water in a beatiful setting. One of my favourites of our four week trip. Surprisingly also for free, even has good parking. Great place!
  • Just go there and enjoy this awesome natural spa! Go there during cold days because water in very warm!
  • Beautiful setting, hot springs and plenty of climbing, just bring your flip flops as the sharp stones can hurt your feet. Not much is free in this world but this was as was parking. Well worth a visit
