  • Definitely evocative place, outside the village of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, used also to the Hermitage for travelers. For those who love culture and religious destinations is a place not to be missed.

  • What I was very surprised to know that the founder of the Abbey of the Goleto, Guglielmo from Vercelli, was the one who first laid the foundation stones for a more famous monastery: Montevergine. In this monastery, Guillén gave birth to a male community of monks and later, having gone to the Goleto, where he lived for years in a hollow of a tree, felt the need to build a monastery for women. And in about 1133, began the construction of the Abbey of Goleto headed by an Abbess. The most famous, Febronia, Marina I and II Agnes and education. With the disappearance of the last Abbess, was annexed to the Abbey of Montevergine and was abandoned for years. Today, renovated to better, presents the uniqueness of what it was in days gone by. Many places, unfortunately, restored roughly, others report the structure of the original. The Abbey lived moments ranging from the time of the monks, with works of art that made famous the Goleto, from the construction of the Tower Febronia, built in defense of the place from the first Abbess, the Funeral Chapel, where were hung the bodies of monks or nuns to "drain". The chapel of Saint Lucia, was the jewel of the Abbey built by Abbess Marina II to hold a relic of Saint Luke was erected in 1735, Then later date about the Church of V, great Neapolitan architect. It was, in the end, father Lucius m. De Marino, monaco Virgin, who succeeded, at the end of the twentieth century, to bring to the attention of all material and spiritual recovery of the beautiful Abbey. Today, after all the restoration work carried out, the place is guarded by spiritual monks "little brothers of Jesus Caritas," followers of Charles de Foucauld. They live their ideal contemplative and missionary with prayers and sharing with everyone, in full communion with the local church. The Abbey you can admire precious works of art, strings and written columns and capitals decorated with curved leaves, apses, buttresses with animal heads, frescos of the XVI century, medallions depicting the Abbesses Marina and Scholastic, floors dating back to 1700, stuccos, blocks with bas-reliefs, carved stones, a polychrome sarcophagus that kept the body of William become holy, so many things to see and do. The House of peasants still stands magnificent at the entrance with a large garden. Unforgettable experience and I would highly recommend for a guided tour.
