  • In the beautiful and evocative town of San Vito Lo Capo, among the countless tourist attractions and beautiful scenery, there is also the chapel of Santa Crescenzia. The pretty square-plan building was built in the 13th century in honor of the nurse of San Vito, Saint Crescenzia, of whom it is said that she died, in the place where today stands the chapel of the same name. Legend has it that the saint had the power to ward off fear from people in case they threw a stone into the chapel (remove 'u scantu' as they say in Sicilian). The history of Saint Crescenzia has multiple versions, many of them dipping in myth and folklore and harks back to ancient miracles and magical powers. One of these narratives, in fact, tells that Santa Crescenzia, after turning to look at her city as it was razed to the ground, became herself a stone in her chapel. The chapel of Santa Crescenzia has always boasted a great devotion so much that today many tourists and locals go there to visit and pay tribute to it. #Sanvitolocapoappartamentodesines #Sanvitolocapoappartamentodesines #Sanvitolocapoappartamentodesines #italia #sicilia #trapani #Sanvitolocapo #cappellasantacrescenzia #Sanvitolocapoappartamentodesines #Sanvitolocapoappartamentodesines #Sanvitolocapoappartamentodesines #Sanvitolocapoappartamentodesines #appartamentodesines

  • small chapel located along the road of little artistic and historical interest. It's not even worth stopping.

  • Small but very nice this chapel dedicated to St. Crescenza, perhaps should be more valued. It is located on the road immediately after Makari and before the center of San Vito Lo Capo.

  • Very impressive little chapel, built by Erice in the 16th century and dedicated to Saint Crescentia. Legend has it that a young Roman patrician, son of a senior official of ancient Rome, to escape the persecutions of Diocletian, he decided to flee from Maher, his hometown, along with Modesto and Crescenzia nurse tutor who had converted to Christianity. After a few days of sailing North, a storm forced the ship to Vito to land in a Bay protected from the wind by a rocky Cape well known by sailors of the time (Egitarso or Egitallo his name) and here the three would try to convert the villagers Conturrana, which stood at about three kilometers from the sea, under a high fortress. Vito, Modesto e Crescenzia failed to convert to their faith the villagers, and indeed these were driven out and threatened. It was then that, as a divine punishment, came a huge landslide buried a village and its inhabitants.
