  • This is the main place of worship of San Quirico d'Orcia (and it was one of the symbols) was built in the late 12th century/beginning of the next century on an old church, preceded by a baptistery, from the 8th century. Latin cross with a single nave and apsidal chapels; outside features three splayed portals and lunettati, the smallest of which, dated 1298, has a Latin inscription in the Lunette, while the richest is the main Portal: in Lombard style, consisting of vestibule to arch, decorated and supported by two pairs of sandstone columns per side, make a knot in the middle and resting on lions. Inside the porch there are five columns on each side with capitals decorated with animals and acanthus leaves; on the portal two crocodiles facing each other; in the Lunette is carved in high relief, enthroned figure of San Quirico (considered also the effigy of San Damaso). With lots of detail on the outside, inside various works of art: the great altarpiece of the ' 400, '' Madonna and child, Angels and saints '' attributed to Sano di Pietro; a detached fresco of the early ' 500 ' ' Madonna of the Apple '' (or '' Madonna delle Grazie '') by Girolamo di Benvenuto; and the painting of early fifteenth century, '' Our Lady of the Rosary that saves a girl from drowning '' by Rutilio Manetti. Church from within austere and mystical, but it always strikes me more outside for the complexity of its decorations. To watch carefully!

  • A magical atmosphere. Unfortunately I had no time but definitely because it deserves. Highly recommended!

  • Nice and quiet which is the largest church of s. Quirico. Beautiful portal to start from that towards Siena between Romanesque and Gothic, simple and cozy inside with a magnificent wooden beamed ceiling and a Baroque altar a bit decontextualized, but cute.
