  • The small village of San Pietro is located along what were the infamous German Gustav line and Reinhardt. In December 1943 was the subject of very violent bombings and cruentissimi clashes between German and Allied troops. The battle cost the lives of about 100 civilians and military allies as well as countless 1000 wounded and missing. The destruction of the town was so intense so reconstruction suggesting instead the reconstruction just over downstream. What remains of the old village still exists today, in the countryside and edited by some local initiatives and associations. Today has become a Memorial Park and you can see him wandering among its narrow streets deserted and in ruins.

  • The ruins are wonderful to explore. It is amazing that people were able to survive by hiding in the caves. It is very sad what we are wiling to do to each other for a piece of land.  more »
  • Absolutely little known and valued for the memory it offers, is the Italian version of Oradour sur Glane in France, although more small. The staff (young, maybe volunteers) were the Portuguese Fort, and made a pleasant visit.
