Rock Church located inside a five-meter deep blade, characterized by the presence of several caves that open on the ridges. Caves, dug in the late bronze age for burials, were used as dwellings until at least the 14th century. The construction of the underground Church took place at different times. In fact between the XI and XII centuries was excavated the vestibule, the naos (presbytery) with the altar facing East and service niches next to the altar. The original church was dedicated to Saint George. Between the 12th and 14th centuries was excavated a second underground funerary use, with separate entrance, characterized by niches-chapels, the latter of which was painted the portrait of the Virgin and child represented as the Byzantine Eleousa (Virgin of tenderness). Finally towards the end of the 16th century was demolished the wall that divided the two tombs. Further excavations enlarged the crypt and moved into the new presbytery the monolith with the image of the Madonna. A walk in the Park around the blade, the blade's path inside the Park more or less prolonged within the Tomb, especially on days of low turnout of visitors, can arouse intense sensations, related perhaps to the vicissitudes of the past. A quibble is constituted by the fact that, at the various stages that led to the recovery and restructuring of whole, someone decided to pass a layer of varnish on the frescoes, probably to protect them from environmental degradation. Instead they should be safeguarded more effectively, consider the beauty and exquisite workmanship.

The peak sanctuary of our Lady of grace is truly fascinating. A place surrounded by nature and a territory. A place where you can spend time in prayer, away from the noise of civilization. Presence of bathrooms. I would recommend a more frequent cleaning of the surrounding terrain. However full rating
