3.2/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
Visit one of the most famous shrines in the world at Chiesa di San Pio, a Catholic shrine for Saint Padre Pio, a friar, priest, and mystic who died in 1968. The old church and the shrine are located in the same place, so you can visit the lower chapel and view the relics of Saint Pio. You can also see his cell, confessional, and many of his personal belongings on display. There are no English tours, so consider hiring a guide or doing research before visiting. Plan your visit to Chiesa di San Pio and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our San Giovanni Rotondo holiday planner.

  • too luxurious for a Saint who made a lifestyle of humility. Wide open spaces, but little indication on sites dedicated to visit. Miss the kneelers in the main church, this is very unbecoming, not allowing the faithful to kneel in the highlights of the Holy Eucharist.

  • a huge playon from where you can appreciate the total volume a channel that runs to the flower-filled side that recreates the space. a view of the Valley which is wonderful. A particular and very recreated inside forms and spaces. Beautiful stained-glass windows and murals. A MARVEL. NOT TO BE MISSED

  • The Church of Saint Pio is very large, it may contain up to 7000 worshippers. What in my opinion jars (obviously very nice) is the lower part where the gold is King. I don't know if Pius would welcome. But beyond this reflection the Church globally is very nice and if you are in the area is visited.
