  • The Abbey Florense is a major architectural work of San Giovanni in Fiore, founded in about 1200, Romanesque-Gothic style. At the entrance you can appreciate the original limestone Portal bridge, it was impacted by the imposing nave accentuated by high walls and bare. At the bottom there is an altar in Baroque style (as opposed to the austerity of the building) and the most valuable element of the complex: the apse with the particular circular Windows. In the side chapel there is a steep and narrow staircase leading to the crypt where the remains of Joachim of Fiore. In the nave, the Centro studi Joachimites has set up a permanent exhibition with replicas of the boards of the Liber Figurarum, code depicting the complex thoughts of Abbot on the Trinitarian theology of history. In the East Wing of the complex abadiale on two floors there is a Folklore Museum ethnographic character. In the end a few meters from the Abbey there is still an element of the ancient city walls and gateway to the monastery: the Norman arch.

  • The Church and the crypt have been restored but maintain tranquility and charm. Local and regional administrators hopefully promote these places to make them easily accessible to a larger number of visitors.

  • Welcomed by the President of the Center for Giachimiti, as a group do, we had the chance to visit every corner of this beautiful Abbey, from the crypt to the wonderful, gigantic classroom at the apse, from below and from above, from the Conventual area access. The view from the top of the House is a wonderful gift that you give to the contemplation of beauty, made of simple geometric relationships, enhanced by the naked stone surfaces that expresses the purity of perfection. A medieval church, built with a single nave by friar Luca Campano (then Archbishop and Builder of the Cathedral of Cosenza), in accordance with the principles of the founder of Florense, Joachim of Fiore.

  • The Abbey Florense is among the largest religious building in Calabria, thanks to the impressiveness of the complex b, and is considered, along with the shrine of Saint Francis of Paola, the most important religious building in Calabria. It is part of the Archdiocese of Cosenza-Bisignano, and chronology, the first building and settlement, achieved in San Giovanni in Fiore, decreeing as well, the birth of the city. (from wiki)
