Torre Grossa, San Gimignano

(4.6/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Steeped in history, Torre Grossa draws visitors with its intricate architecture, important artwork, and impressive views of Tuscany. The 13th-century palace stands on the ruins of an even older building. As the seat of local government for centuries, the building houses civic offices of the town council on the ground floor. Explore the upper levels to find the civic museum and gallery, featuring the former council chamber, and beautiful frescoes painted by the likes of Coppo di Marcovaldo, Lippo Memmi, and Benozzo Gozzoli. Climb to the top of the palace's tower for one of the best views of Tuscany. Put Torre Grossa at the forefront of your travel plans using our San Gimignano itinerary planner.

  • Are two in one. Be sure to climb the rungs of the 154 Torre Grossa Palazzo Civico for a spectacular view of the city and the countryside around. When down, visit the galleries with fantastic works of art.

  • Beautiful city! Has 52 towers! Of witch I saw 12 maybe
  • Incredible 360° views of the city and countryside. Worth the ticket price and provides unique glimpse into these early medieval tower dwellings of the rich. Some well preserved art on the lower floors including two Filippino Lippi paintings
  • Beautiful panorama from there. Pricey but worth the climb
  • If you had enough time to do one thing only in San Gimignano then climbing the Torre Grossa is it. It's the tallest of the historic towns towers and offers panoramic views of not just the town but the hills around it.
  • Great views of the surrounding area at a reasonable price to go up the tower!
