  • In the Collegiata di San Gimignano we admired, among other valuable works, the chapel of Santa Fina. Thanks to the audio guide (very useful) it becomes aware of the history of Santa Fina, a young fellow that i revere as their Patron Saint. Lived in the thirteenth century and it is said that she was struck, she was very young, with a serious illness that prevented her every movement. She was forced to stay in bed, but she chose to live the last few years, with the wounded body, on a wooden board. When he died, the towers and city walls flowered of violets and it is said that every year, on the date of his death, still Yellow violets bloom. In the chapel dedicated to her two paintings can be admired: especially nice when the Pope Gregory the great the announces his impending death. There is also a precious reliquary bust of the Saint made of painted leather.

  • The Duomo or collegiate church is a fine example of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany. Accessed by a staircase which gives the Church an even more slender. Around the year 1000 it was a simple parish church was consecrated by Pope Eugene III and in it are venerated saints of the city like Santa Fina and San Geminiano. The Interior of the Basilica is beautifully and entirely frescoed. On the right wall are painted New Testament stories, frescoes attributed to the school of Simone Martini, on the left wall stories from the old testament by Bartolo di Fredi, outstanding medieval frescoes. On the counter-façade lies a beautiful fresco of the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian and two beautiful and rare wooden statues by Jacopo della Quercia. Wonderful fresco by Taddeo di Bartolo depicting the last judgment with the blessed and the damned about Dante's inspiration. In a chapel, then, is placed the famous 13th-century polychrome wooden crucifix. Another treasure is the chapel of Santa Fina with frescoes by Ghirlandaio depicting St. Gregory announcing his death next to Saint Fina and the funeral of santa to finish with the precious altar made by Benedetto da Maiano, under which lies the tomb of Santa Fina. Very refined the delicate features Santa bust made of painted leather, also a rarity.
