Grotte di Stiffe, San Demetrio ne' Vestini
(4.3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Accessible only by guided tour, Grotte di Stiffe is a complex of caves formed by centuries of dripping and flowing water. Listen to the murmur of the streams that pass through the caves, wander past stalactites and stalagmites, and inspect the results of erosion and corrosion over time in the complex rock formations. Be prepared for a long walk with lots of steps. Even if it is warm outside, don’t forget to bring an extra layer, as the caves remain at a constant 10 C (50 F) year-round. Due to unpredictable weather conditions between November and April, it is advisable to call ahead during this period to assure that tours are available. • The cave is located on the mountain, you can get there with a coach in the organization. Definitely worth a visit, its particularity is that within a river, which in summer is less full-bodied and winter covers the whole cave.

  • Very interesting attraction and easily accessible. There are no limitations, except for wheelchair users as there are several steps to go. The guide was professional and friendly. The ticket office is a little far from the entrance, follow the signs at the crossroads.

  • I was initially skeptical but I was pleasantly surprised! The guides are very friendly and will accompany you all the way by explaining clearly what you see and answering questions. Sure maybe € 10 for entrance is a bit much, but I'm glad to have spent ... waterfalls, stalactites, stalagmites and lava flows. so much to see! Suitable for children but because of the many stairs do not recommend it to those who get tired easily (the visit lasts 50 minutes in which it remains standing)

  • The Grotto is a lovely guided tour through the areas ancient caves, and provides an easy, yet educational and gorgeous, introduction to caves.

  • Beautiful caves that run along a route followed by a river. Winter and summer temperature of 10° so bring a jacket, humidity is truly remarkable. Generally are not as spectacular as other caves, like the caves of frasassi. But the sympathy of the guides is remarkable. The round trip takes about 40 minutes.

  • The Stiffe caves in the province of L'Aquila are beautiful caves only with guided tour of approximately 70 minutes. The entrance is reached within a few minutes by shuttle bus takes you from the parking lot further downstream where obviously you can comfortably Park your car and make tickets because ticket office is next to the car park and not at the entrance of the caves. The visit is interesting through various special rooms from quiet room to room 25 meters high waterfall. The internal temperature is about 10 degrees so if you want to bring something to cover you. For lovers of Canyoning appointment you can experience in the cave itself. All information is available at the ticket office.
