  • The Palace from the outside does not show how much inside is fine. To reach the gallery that is worth the visit takes you through several rooms that are well painted. The guides-voluntary-are very good and for a euro each, at least in the time of our visit, illustrated with great ability, the story of the frescoes, narrating the rivalry between cousins: the Gonzaga of Mantua and Sabbioneta Gonzaga.

  • At least once a year I go to Sabbioneta because it fascinates me, not at all in the 2008 UNESCO has declared a world heritage site together with Mantua. The "casino", commonly known as Palace grounds, is a modest rustic-looking building, located between the gallery and the "Corridor". Was built between 1580 and 1588, becoming the Duke's private residence. The exterior, made unique by a precious oak cornice, was painted in may 1588 with geometric shapes like the palaces of the ancient strada Giulia, now via Vespasiano Gonzaga. The Interior was decorated by different artists coordinated by Bernardino Campi between 1582 and 1587. Through a marble staircase leads to the main floor in the dressing room of the Caesars. It then enters the Chamber of Baucis and Philemon. The House of myths is covered by a Hall divided into five panes. They are surrounded by an elaborate frame in Golden stucco. Through a small corridor decorated with scenes from the myth of Orpheus enters the Studiolo of Duke. An intimate environment square, magnificently decorated. Through short corridor leads into the broader environment of Orpheus of the building the Hall of mirrors. In the long walls alternate Windows four panes with landscapes that represent as many scenes from the myth of Paris. In the arches of court walls there were Venetian glass mirrors on the side seats of which there were wooden doors. In the Hall of mirrors opens the Camerino of grace, a delightful setting with private destination admirably decorated by Fornarino. Of the Italian garden, seen through the Windows of the Hall of mirrors, today remain only three caves in niche and, within that Central, a marble basin. The audience consisted of two streets that intersected in the Center where it was placed a fountain covered by a wooden temple with copper-clad dome. The building still retains its intimate size and, through the precious decorations, bears witness to the continuous pursuit of the Crown Prince a form of contemplative life.

  • Unique location of a unique city, its interior but still reflects more what Sabbioneta is now empty. Sorry reprimand this piece of history with this word but it is what I think whenever I come here. However, it remains a goal to do, maybe even just walking under the arches of this beautiful Palace.
