  • "Victory and Lament" (Triumphs and Laments) is a mural painted on the slopes of a 550-metre embankment on the right bank side between the Giuseppe Mazzini Bridge and the Sisto Bridge on the Tiber River. It is drawn by the technique that the part left by dropping the dirt on the slope rather than the frescoes familiar in Rome even if it is said the mural becomes a form and becomes a shape. It seems to be said, "work which disappears" because the part of the dirt left that is not said that it remains as a mural as for the remaining dirt by the wind and rain and the swollen flow, and the pollution further by the atmosphere is adhered. The writer of this mural is a person named William Kentridge (William Kentridge) of the contemporary art artist in South Africa. The content of the work is a huge scale depicting the scene of the historical moments of Rome. The writer speaks of the meaning of the title "Victory and grief" and says that "every history has a mixture of heroic and shameful things, glory and shame," and "The glory of the gorgeous renaissance of Rome It is the isolation of Jews in the ghetto that occurred at the same time. " When we visited, some of the contours of the work were blurred and disappeared slightly.

  • The only interesting thing is the technique used for this mural: The travertine wall, darkened by the influences of the weather, was cleaned by chlorine and painted with stencils, thus standing out from the rest of the darker wall. This novel technique has created this work of art, which will soon disappear again under the environmental influences. A metaphor for the transience not only of the Roman Empire.

  • It is really a pity that only the Vandals have interest in this beautiful creation. I travel regularly to rivedermela, also only remaining on the lungotevere dei Tebaldi, and it is with great bitterness that I noticed the second act of vandalism in a year. Is it really true that Rome doesn't deserve anything. I enclose a few photos documenting the misdeed.

  • Ugly modernist art that looks like bad graffiti. Honestly, I've seen some good graffiti in Paris and Sydney, but this is just unpleasant.
  • Triumphs and Laments. 550 m long artwork by William Kentridge (South African artist) from April 2016. The wall was cleaned with image templates set up. The clean part is therefore bright and the unclean is still dark. A great work of art that fits perfectly with Rome and the wall, because the method makes it look like very old paintings. Looks nice from Ponte Sisto towards St. Peter's Basilica. You can walk along the Tiber and see the works close by.
  • Unfortunately the little maintenance of the work and the long Tiber because of the Roman administration are leading almost to disappearance, damaged even by the graffiti of the vandals make it even less visible. The reliefs were born from the "dirty" of the retaining walls of the river and cleaning just some part of it comes out a spectacular work from a great meaning that encompasses the whole history of Rome but risk disappearing once again in the dirt. With the means is difficult to get there but I have arrived passing through the alleys characteristic of Trastevere or if you are reckless and you feel like adventures take the Buses ATAC. I advise against visiting it at night as there are many clochard even during the day and it could be dangerous.
