Trastevere, Rome
(4.6/5 based on 7,500+ reviews on the web)
The historic Trastevere neighborhood is known for its narrow, cobblestone alleyways and medieval structures. Enjoy a small-town feel in this area south of Vatican city along the banks of the Tiber river. Wander the streets to see the eclectic mix of old shops and trendy cafes. Head to the Piazza Santa Maria to admire the architecture of the basilica. The neighborhood has a vibrant nightlife that contrasts with the more laid-back daytime. • I advise you to spend some time and take a stroll around the area! quite a different atmosphere and architecture of the central historical districts of Rome.

  • A great district. With a huge variety of restaurants and bars. The best combination of price quality in Rome.

  • I lived for many years in Trastevere, then much of what I say is inevitably "biased". I have witnessed the change, the rapid succession of shops (who remembers pizzaeria "Gables" on the corner of Trastevere and via San Marcos?). But I don't want to repeat the usual paean on "gentrification" of the neighborhood. I leave each to his own judgment. However, I would like to recall the pleasure of walking in the evening (not weekends) between the narrow streets with low traffic, breakfast in Santa Maria in Trastevere, the parade of police horses in via della Luce. The procession of the Madonna. The go read a book in the Park of the Botanical Garden. The strenuous climb back in via Garibaldi to arrive at Gianicolo. The slice of pizza or one of the "legendary" suppli di Venanzio at pizzera Sisini then continue just ahead with spending the old Racket. Crossing the bridge to plunge into the atmosphere of the Ghetto (I know it's not Trastevere, but it's part of my memories) not before, in the summer, have made a scratchy opposite the isola Tiberina. And speaking of the island I "Sora Lella" I met her ... The walks along the banks of the Tiber with and without the stalls. The summer cinema in piazza San Cosimato and outdoor arena del cinema di Moretti. I would forget the parking, traffic sloppy and dirt of Porta Portese. The stalls intrusive of viale Trastevere. Firefighters "distracted" with vans, bancarellari. Historical Library closing, cinema America (even though it was old and uncomfortable). The disappearance of my newpaper seller who kept me on paper when he didn't see me. Air pollution and sound ...
