  • in the middle of the sea after the demolition, with the attached medieval building whose columns date back to the demolished House of Boccamazzi.

  • It has a height of 17.50)mt. They claim it was part of a larger complex, resting on Republican-era temples. The name seems to derive either from the Papareschi family (also called de Papa) or from the memory of the antipapa Anacleto II Pierleoni. The tower was "liberated" by Muoz in 1940, demolishing the buildings that were leaning on two sides of the tower. All windows were modified, trying to return the original appearance.

  • In the southeast corner of the Torre Argentina square, so first I like portion of ruins of ancient Rome. But around unrelated medieval ruins and buildings were being demolished buildings of the same era was, it remained only the Tower of Papeete. Is the Tower of the prison Windows with unobtrusive impression, but it is not. Papert called low-height owner who was or was taken from the family because of the owner of seems to be no definitive there are various theories. Plain old tower in the countryside of Italy often saw the metropolis of Rome would have left only this tower being dismantled around building something there.

  • In Piazza dei Calcarari, in addition to the many pine trees, this pretty medieval tower known as the "Papito" or the "Boccamazzi" rises to the sky. This building is accompanied by a beautiful arcade, rebuilt in 1932, using the granite columns, which came to light. The flooring of the porticisise is made with Roman technique, "by herringbone".

  • The tower of the pope, although lower today, reminds us that in medieval times the Roman skyline was dotted with many towers, over 50.Torri that had a dual role, both defensive and as a demonstration of the strength/wealth of the client family. Too bad you can't visit her.

  • The Torre del Papito or Boccamazzi is named after the client family. It is said of the Papito because it was erected in a particular historical period, connoted by a strong instability of the papal office, divided between popes and antipopes (Papito could refer to a transliteration of Papetto, or unofficial pontiff). The tower itself is introduced by a kind of porch portico, according to the medieval architectural characteristic. It is part of the type of houses-towers that were scattered through the center of the city from the tenth century. The noble families in fact, they "Consorziavano" building walkways between a house-tower and the other to defend themselves better in case of attack. The struggles and family feuds were widespread. Currently, the: building appears scapitozzato, ie deprived of the upper part (the tower-houses were higher), in the Baroque period, following a plan of restoration conservatively involving the city.

  • The Papito Tower, located in Largo torre Argentina (Ward IX Pigna), is almost 18 meters high, and is the only remaining part of a republican-era building (period from 509 to 27 BC) In 1940, with the excavation of the surrounding area, the buildings on the sides were demolished, making it completely isolated, at the same time the windows that were modern were also modified and along with other works tried to make it as possible close to the original appearance. The adjacent log is also a reconstruction of that period. To see the photos before 1940, then before the demolitions, you are amazed at how changed that urban context.
