  • With the Renaissance, until recently it was known as the Temple of Vesta due to similarities with other temple, located in the Roman Forum, dedicated to this goddess. With city maps and guidebooks he is still referred to as the Temple of Vesta. This is the first shrine, which is dedicated to Hercules Olivariju, patron saint of merchants selling olive oil. It is the oldest marble building in the city. The temple consists of marble blocks and is surrounded on all sides by twenty Corinthian columns, one of which is missing. Capitals on slender pillars in the form of flowers pretty rough shape, they relate to the period between the boards of Caesar and Augustus. In the twelfth century it became a church dedicated to Saint Stefan first, and then, in the sixteenth century, the Holy Virgin Mary. Due to the lack of people not immediately understand what is behind the building.

  • It is a temple of Heracles's true mouthed. As a temple of marble remain circular wonder of white marble Corinthian columns at the Temple in Rome is one of the oldest. It was on the way to the Church Santa Maria in kosomedin of the mouth of truth seems to win God Hercules Temple merchants of olive oil in the late 2nd century. White cylinder is 20 and stood out from a distance.

  • Usually closed, I was able to visit it through CoopCulture: together with the round temple you can visit the Temple of Portunus, always in the archaeological area of the Forum boarium. Not to be missed!

  • Nice place! Oldest temples in Rome. For a visit or guide make an arrangements in advance.
  • Nice hidden gem
  • Interesting sight
  • Ancient Forum
  • Often a bit snubbed by tour operators. Worth a picture. Roman historical attraction within walking distance from the mouth of truth and the theatre of Marcellus.
