  • A short distance from the famous Mouth of Truth is present this beautiful "temple". Seen only externally, when I passed it was inaccessible. In any case it is very nice and given the rather famous area it is worth passing by to look at it, if then it was open...

  • The temple of Portuno (Aedes Portuni), deity of the port, is also known as the Temple of Manly Fortune. The current appearance is due to a reconstruction of the 2nd century BC. The temple is built on a masonry podium lined with travertine slabs: from the steps you reach the pronao with four grooved and travertine Ionian columns. The walls of the rectangular cell are in blocks of tuff to which are attached four semi-columns on the side also these in tuff, but with bases and capitals in travertine.

  • It is a small temple of ancient temples between the Fabrizio Bridge and the Mouth of truth, but its appearance is still well preserved. (Personally, most of the walls and roofs that have been blocked seem to have been filled with later generations.) Admission and viewing is limited to guided visits on the first and third Sundays of every month and reservations must be made.

  • Looking so good after so many years
  • A great temple in honour of an artist in Rome!!!
  • Great ancient ruins, they still look good
  • Beautiful spot across with few visitors, near Tiber River walk, from Boca. Take a few minutes to imagine Rome, 2000 years ago. Gorgeous sunny day in January.
  • I love this place for the history of it. Portunus was a latin god. Specifically it was the wind who carried the ships safely to the harbour. The Romans believed that the wind should be celebrated because we have to imagine that the main items and products were carried by ships and a gentle and good wind helped to arrive safely. The english word OPPORTUNITY comes from Portunus because an opportunity is something good right?
