  • The Temple of portunus, genius of the port tiberinus, stood on the South side of the Harbour, Republican outside of the fourth century. BC Rectangular in shape, features four fluted columns with capitals of ionic columns on the front and on the back wall and on the long sides. The materials are in travertine, while the foundations, the walls of the cell, and the columns are the Aniene tufa. All the parts of the building were covered with white stucco that served to disguise the different materials and to give the overall appearance of marble. Against the back wall you can still see the podium in blocks on which rested the base of the statue. With the end of paganism, the temple was converted into a Christian church dedicated to our Lady. Referred to as, the Church of Santa Maria in Gradellis (from the bleachers that from this side down towards the water mills present in this point of the river), afterwards will purchase the name of St. Mary of Egypt. The transformation in the Church must have occurred just prior to the reign of Pope John VII (872-882), when it was performed on medieval frescoes discovered during the restoration. At the time of transformation were walled up the spaces between the columns.

  • There are almost completely preserved temples of ancient Rome, and in General! This is a unique place! I advise to visit.

  • A visit through here (on the way to the mouth of truth) Piazza della Bocca is recommended. This is a Roman temple from the Republican era. In the 9 century was the temple converted into a Christian Church. The Church was removed to restore the original appearance of the Temple in 1916.

  • Saw it on way to restaurant. Nice
  • It's fine
  • Woohoo
  • The Temple of Portunus is a temple dedicated to "manly Fortune" (feted during the Renaissance, also from Machiavelli), the strength of the alea that creates opportunities.
