  • Represents the gesture performed by the Czech student Jan Palach who committed suicide to protest against the invasion of Russia in your country and this gesture was embraced by an Italian newspaper that released and participated in campaigns to raise funds and make a monument and did you get any further because with the inauguration of the monument in January 1970 the Piazza also happened to have the name your-tribute.

  • The gesture of the Czech student Jan Palach, who killed himself to protest the Soviet repression, had a strong echo in Italy, where the Roman newspaper climate initiative at the end of January 1969, was opened a fundraiser to build a monument dedicated to the Student Prague. At the inauguration of the monument, Sunday, January 18, 1970, it was decided to dedicate the Jan Palach square's name.

  • In Prague in the square Vaclavske namestiè there is a sculpture in memory of this student who decided to sacrifice his life to call attention to the plight of his people victim of Soviet repression. It's a tombstone with the cross resting almost on the ground that it is really difficult to see. This monument is rather more impressive and the bronze statue rests on a travertine base well representing the young surrounded by flames while raising an arm to the sky in memory of that event which has touched the whole world, when the student Jan Palach, Czechoslovakian Patriot 20 years of age, on 16 January 1969 went to the Wenceslas square and covered the body with gasoline and set fire with a lighter on the steps of the National Museum, becoming the symbol of the anti-Soviet resistance of his Country. At his funeral, on 25 January, attended by 600 000 people from all over the country and even the Mayor of Rome and the following year opened this sculpture in the 1960 Summer Olympic Games area dedicated to Czechoslovakia.

  • Bronze statue in memory of the old Italian sculptor Jan palach, Czechoslovakian nettle "Vittorio Colbertaldo (1902-1979), on a travertine base and represents the young surrounded by flames while raising an arm to the sky. The dynamic shape is in keeping with the modern architecture of surrounding buildings, originally belonging to the Olympic village, built for the Olympic Games held in Rome in 1960. For Jan Palach Memorial in Rome was even written a poem: "bright sky and hot days, solid stone pedestal, God has painted the sky so blue, it will tend your arms, tap the blue with the fingertips" (Anastáz Opasek)
