  • Statua di Ciceruacchio is a bronze statue of Angelo Bruneti, who worked with Garibaldi in Italian unification. Ciceruacchio seems to have been named after Angelo Bruneti's nickname was "chubby". Do you pronounce Kiseracchio?

  • The story of Angelo Brunetti, known by everyone as "Ciceruacchio", has incredible. He had trusted the promises made by Pius IX, at the liberal turn, but with the mention of '48, he ended up siding with the Garibaldi, in the revolutionary motions, during the Roman Republic of Giuseppe Mazzini. It was glorious and tragic days, punctuated by the heroism and sacrifice of so many young patriots, and Ciceruacchio was with them on the barricades, to reject the repression of the army French called to help by the Pope, until the end. In Rome, you know, we are light-hearted, mocking and ruthless, it is our nature. When he was captured, when asked by the executioner who sentenced him to the shooting "But why did you get involved?", he replied: "In lost time, I also know homo, and the homo gets involved." The statue that the people wanted to remember, we admired it at the entrance of the Janiculum, a symbol of the Roman Resurgence, before the gate that gives on Porta San Pancrazio. It is no small matter that Garibaldi on horseback, not far from him, turned his back on the Vatican.

  • Angelo Brunetti said Ciceruacchio. The sculptor from Palermo Ettore Ximenes, which was originally placed on the lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia, at Margaret Bridge. The nickname Ciceruacchio, given to him by a child, is the corruption of the original romanesco dialect ciruacchiotto (plump).
