  • The tombs were buried only a century after their creation, at the end of the 1st century BC and these remained until 1916, the year of their rediscovery; can their visit only upon reservation at apert. extraordinary, in our case this event took place this past March to coincide with a Sunday. The site of the Republican period shows the name of the gens Statilia who had possessions in the area between Porta maggiore and Santa Croce in Gerus. along the route of the ancient Via Caelimontana. One of them is older than others, with a façade that has a rectangular door flanked by two round shields excavated in the same blocks; an inscription recalls that owners were Publius Quinctius, Freedman of Titus and bookseller, and his wife Quinctia concubine Quinctia Agatea. Next to it, the latest of about a century is the "Sepulchre Gemino, i.e. double that occurs with two entrances leading to two distinct burial spaces, with a façade decorated with two busts depicting five dead.
